1. The Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in computer science/new media is an interdisciplinary major offered by the Computer Science and Engineering, Communication Arts. The major prepares students in the development and support of computing tools in the creative arts. The degree requires the completion of two years of one foreign language and 64 hours in the major. Students in this major are required to pass a comprehensive examination during their senior year consisting of an oral examination, portfolio, and successful completion of a project course.
The degree requires successful completion of core courses in computer science, new media courses in computer science, a computer science elective, new media courses in art, new media courses in communications, and a communications elective as described in this document.
2. The Bachelor of Science degree with a major in computer science—new media/systems is an interdisciplinary major offered jointly by the Computer Science and Engineering, Communication Arts, and Visual Arts departments. The major is based on the bachelor of arts degree in computer science—new media and has a systems analysis component appended to the major. The degree requires the completion of 64 credit hours as specified for the bachelor of arts degree in computer science—new media and of additional curriculum requirements in systems analysis. All systems curriculum courses must be completed with a grade of C- or better. Students in this major are required to pass a comprehensive examination during their senior year consisting of an oral examination, portfolio, and successful completion of a project course.
