Five juniors in computer science were joined by two Lighthouse staff sponsors for a three-week January interterm trip to Catacamas, Honduras. They provided various forms of computer-related service to Escuela El Sembrador (School of the Sower), a school operated by World Gospel Mission. The school’s mission is to help meet educational needs and a positive spiritual nurturing environment for Honduran boys who would otherwise have no such opportunity. As part of the Taylor Lighthouse program, the students were concurrently enrolled in a three-credit-hour inter-area studies course entitled Cross Cultural Outreach (IAS-320). The experience combined technical discipline-related service opportunities with cross-cultural learning.
