Dr. Jonathan Geisler, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering (left) and
Dr. Will Holmes, Assistant Professor of Physics (right) have represented Taylor at ABET workshops during the summer months of recent years as part of the ABET accreditation process.
The Computer Engineering and Engineering Physics Programs at Taylor have been through the extensive review process required for ABET accreditation, including an on-site review during fall 2007. Subsequently, both programs have been awarded ABET accreditation. The action by ABET represents a significant milestone and mark of distinction for Taylor University graduates from these two programs. ABET, Inc., historically known as the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, is the nationally recognized body for accrediting college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology. It is a federation of 28 professional and technical societies representing these fields. Among the most respected accreditation organizations in the U.S., ABET has provided leadership and quality assurance in higher education for over 70 years. The visit by the ABET review team and the subsequent accreditation announcement came after four years of effort by the Physics Department and the Computer Science and Engineering Department in the accreditation process. Every faculty and staff member of the two departments has committed substantial effort into the process. According to Dr. Tom Jones, Dean of Arts and Sciences, the review team was outstanding in its thorough review of the two engineering programs. "The process has provided invaluable direction to strengthen these already strong programs," said Jones. |
